2010 Toyota Recall

We all heard about the California Highway Patrol Officer who died because of a stuck pedal. Finally after all this time of waiting it seems Toyota is starting to get the ball rolling again by recalling 2.3 million vehicles to correct a problem that could cause the vehicles' accelerator pedal to stick.

This is a new recall separate from the current recall of Toyota and Lexus vehicles (4.2 million). That recall was about replacing the loose floormats with a newer design which would keep the pedals from becoming stuck.

The new recall will correct a situation in which the accelerator pedals were sticking without the presence of a floormat at all.

"Our investigation indicates that there is a possibility that certain accelerator pedal mechanisms may, in rare instances, mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position," Toyota USA group vice president Irv Miller said in a statement.
